St. Mary’s Hospice volunteers offer vital help to people in need, worthwhile causes, and the community, but the benefits can be even greater for you, the volunteer.
Volunteering and helping others can help you reduce stress, combat depression, keep you mentally stimulated, and provide a sense of purpose provide peace, comfort and care to patients, caregivers, and families during the end-of-life process.
The benefits of volunteering can help you to find friends, connect with the community, learn new skills, and even advance your career.
Volunteers may NOT handle patient's medicines, change dressings, help with enteral feedings, transport patients, or fill out financial paperwork.
St. Mary's Hospice Services offers the following volunteering opportunities:
Office volunteers assist Hospice staff members in hospice's administrative office. These activities may include assembling information packets and admission packets, filing, photocopying, assisting with mailings, and putting away supplies.
Veteran volunteers are able to share and perform life review, visiting our veteran patients on Veteran’s Day.
Volunteers who enjoy public speaking, networking and participating in a variety of events designed to raise funds, help with public education and community awareness.
With the help of our volunteers, our patients and families are able to explore their creative side and express their feelings through the visual arts.
Our music enrichment volunteers enjoy singing, playing a musical instrument and share their talent with our hospice patients.
Whether taking photos is your hobby or your passion, you can create memorable moments with your hospice patients by taking professional pictures of the patient and family.
Our patient care volunteers offer emotional care support, and practical assistance that enhances the comfort and quality of life for patients and family/caregivers. These services include being available for companionship, listening to music, talking with the patient, helping with feeding, providing comfort, and simply "being there" to support patient's family and caregiver.
